STAY ON TOP OF ROOF REPAIR
You Can’t Open an Umbrella
When it’s wet outside, you can’t simply open an umbrella large enough to protect the load you’re hauling. Even if you could, an umbrella is at the whim of every breeze. Therefore, it’s imperative that your truck and trailer have the structural integrity and protective value of a solid, reliable roof. If your truck’s roof is in questionable condition or you want a bit of preventive maintenance to head off major problems, rely on the experienced staff at ARS Truck & Fleet Service in New Castle, Delaware. We’re conveniently located between the major local thoroughfares of I-295, I-495, and US 13 at 3065 New Castle Ave New Castle, DE 19720. To make an appointment for help with your truck’s roof repairs, use our online scheduler or call us at (302) 998-0628.
Types of Truck Roof Repair
If you drive a large vehicle (commercial truck and trailer, RV, etc.), you’re going to have one of five major types of roofs–aluminum, fiberglass, PVC, rubber EPDM, or rubber TPO. The particular roof you have determines what kinds of repairs you’ll need. For instance, the great advantages of an aluminum top are the low weight it adds and its affordable upfront cost. Unfortunately, it’s probably not going to last as long as some of the other types. Also, an aluminum roof can be hard to repair in some cases, so you’re more likely to face complete replacement at some point. Fiberglass, in contrast, is the longest lasting roof. It’s very strong, but it’s also quite expensive and adds to the gross vehicle weight. Another roof construction material is PVC. Made with a plasticizer, it’s flexible enough to move with your truck (unlike its “cousin” the PVC plumbing pipe). It comes at a price, but the upside is its resistance to punctures (which is much more tolerant than rubber roofing). Synthetic rubber roofs made from ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) are much like a membrane. They’re lightweight, easy to install, and durable. Similarly, Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) roofing is a synthetic rubber that is of the single-ply, bonding variety. It boasts similar durability, weight, and installation ease.
