Typical Diesel Truck Repairs
We’ll need to accurately check your truck to identify and fix any problems you’re experiencing. We’ll relate some of the more typical diesel truck repairs owners face. For example, oxidized oil can plague trucks that sit unused for long periods. Air bubbles sneak in and can interfere with the oil’s ability to lubricate the engine’s moving components properly. Similarly, humid air can cause water to form in the lubricant of diesel that sits too long. Your diesel truck may also develop an engine compression problem. Ideally, that ratio should be 20:1 in a diesel. If it’s too low, you’ll experience difficulty in starting your truck. If it’s too high, you’ll probably hear an engine knocking. Another source of trouble is fuel contamination. Diesel fuel is easily adulterated because it is more viscous than its counterpart gas. Water, soot, and glycol can potentially enter the fuel, wreaking havoc on the combustion process. As a related issue, a nasty fuel filter can cause a loss of power, as can clogged fuel injectors and loose throttle linkages. Finally, glow plugs are needed to provide a sufficient spark to ignite diesel fuel, particularly in cold weather. You’ll need to replace them if they fail to ensure cranking reliability.
